Why should you fill your own cup?

Mums are often the core of family life, constantly giving their time, energy and love to everyone around them. But realistically, we can’t continue to pour from an empty cup. Taking time to recharge isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

When a mum prioritises her well-being, she’s not just doing it for herself; she’s setting a healthy example for her children, modelling self-care, balance and boundaries. Your children will see you looking after yourself and doing things that make you happy - and isn’t that exactly what you want them to do as they grow up and eventually become parents themselves?

Taking small moments throughout the day, or planning time to yourself when the children are in bed also helps prevent burnout, anxiety, and resentment. Knowing that your life isn’t solely devoted to everyone else really does help you deal with the difficult moments negotiating with your toddler, teenager or partner.

Give yourself the chance to be able to  show up as a more patient and present parent who can genuinely enjoy time with your children - because you’ve had or will have time to yourself mapped out.

Unwinding can look different for everyone—it doesn’t matter what you do, the key is to intentionally carve out time and honor it as non-negotiable in your daily routine.
