Paige Connell: Working Mum & Creator of @sheisapaigeturner

Q1: How are you feeling today? / What’s on your mind today?

I am feeling good but a bit frazzled! My kids go back to school this week but only for 2 days so it feels a bit like whiplash on my end. There is a lot to coordinate!

Q2: How has motherhood changed you?

In so many ways! It has radicalized me in many ways and opened my eyes up to the inequities that exist specifically when it comes to how we treat mothers. It has also made me more empathetic and understanding.

Q3: Which stage of motherhood have you most enjoyed so far?

I am really enjoying having big kids. My oldest two are 7 and 8 and it is really fun to watch them become people who have a life outside of me! I also love the newborn phase!

Q4: What do you think mothers need more of?

Support across the board. They need support at home. They need support emotionally, physically, and mentally. They need support systemically.

Q5: What’s your favourite moment in the day?

Picking my kids up from school!

Q6: What do you find most helpful in enabling you to enjoy motherhood?

Reliable childcare has made all of the difference in my experience of motherhood and has allowed me to enjoy it so much more.

Q7: What gift would you give a new mum?

I always give food. It is so hard to feed yourself when you are in the thick of the newborn phase and I love to alleviate that stress for new parents.

Q8: What was the best piece of advice you were given in terms of motherhood?

Find time for yourself outside of your role as a mother. It will fill you up and energize you so that you can be the best mother to your kids.

Q9: What does self care look like to you as a working mum?

For me it is seeing my friends 1 x per week and working out. I love hot yoga and pilates!

Q10: Can you describe your perfect day?

On my perfect day I would sleep in (not too long but enough to feel rested). We would have a slow morning. Go to the park with the kids. Have a playdate with friends, come home to hang out and then have a babysitter around dinner time so my husband and I can head out for a date!

Q11: If you could change one thing today, what would it be?

If I could change one thing today it would be the high cost of childcare that is impacting so many families.

Q12: If all obstacles were removed, what would be the one thing you’d love to accomplish or experience in your life?

I would love to travel more both with and without my kids. It can be so difficult to find the time and resources to do this especially with young kids but I hope that during phases of my life I can travel the world.
